Information Literacy Committee
Dates: December 1, 2008 -
The Information Literacy Committee is a standing committee as described in Section 7.1 of the Bylaws.
The mission of the Information Literacy Committee is to support the role of Kentucky academic libraries in developing information literate students and lifelong learners.
Other committee concerns include:
- Promoting activities and projects that follow best practices and improve the teaching and learning of information literacy competencies.
- Sharing information, techniques, assessments, and materials.
- Facilitating the implementation of shared information literacy competencies for higher education in Kentucky.
- Collaborating in the development of information literacy programs to prepare Kentucky's pre-collegiate students for higher education.
- Collaborating with Kentucky's library science schools and programs to prepare graduates in best practices for library instruction.
2011-2012 charge is:
- Compile existing information literacy competencies and learning outcomes of the FoKAL membership
- Review FoKAL Information Literacy mission statement and bulleted items and make recommendations for revisions, if needed
- Look for opportunities to formalize the sharing of information literacy best practices, within existing structures of the Kentucky library community, e.g. Kentucky Libraries, KLA conferences, LIRT.
- Develop a forward-looking strategy.
