FoKAL Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

July 14, 2010

Agenda:

I. Communication

     Access to wiki - allow all directors to be 'readers' (so that they can leave comments), Ilona and Carrie will be admins, rest of Exec Committee will be editors

     Ilona will send an email to the entire group with information on new officers and wiki

II. Meetings for Fall

     Executive Committee will meet on the first Wednesday of every month (August 4, September 1, October 6, November 3, December 1) via bridge line provided by EKU.

     Morgan will check with Jared Porter about using Asbury Theological Seminary's access to Wimba.

III. Meetings with Lyrasis

IV. Wiki

     Carrie will explore getting a calendar on the wiki.

     Minutes of the ExComm are each on a new page.

     Notes will be taken of meetings with Lyrasis but they will not be made public.

V. Committee Structure

     Main goal for Fall will be to figure out a committee structure

          Information Literacy Committee would like an updated charge

               Do people across the state have the same understanding about information literacy?

               Hold an IL symposium for high school as well as academic librarians?

          Consider collection committee?

VI. Other items

     Hold a FoKAL social event at KLA?

     Ground courier service - Carrie will send and email and ask directors to comment on the wiki

     FoKAL Logo Merchandise - include in Summit cost? use an online vendor? - item tabled until November

     Incorporation - don't need to discuss right now

     Listserv - Carrie will ask Cindi Trainor at EKU about setting one up

VII. Databases

     Reviewed a proposal from Library Discount Network (Anne Abate)

     Does Appalachian College Association engage in database negotiations for institutions outside their group?  Ilona will talk to Anne Chase at Berea.

     Group needs a transition plan for leaving Lyrasis

VIII. Action Items

     Everyone will add director's name and email address for their group

     Put a mailto link for the listserv on the wiki

     Create wiki pages for the LDN proposal and ground courier discussion

     August 4 at 2:00 p.m. via conference call.  Anne Abate will join the call at 2:30 p.m.
